Common Questions

What People Ask

Applying for Support

Who is eligible to apply for THAF funding?

Generally, applicants must be 18+ years old, U.S. residents, demonstrate financial need, and meet specific criteria for the fund they're applying to. Each fund has its own requirements detailed on its page.

How do I apply for funding?

Applications are submitted through our online portal at apply.thafund.org. You'll need to create an account and complete the application for the specific fund you're interested in.

What documents do I need to apply?

Typically, you'll need identification, proof of residency, income verification, and documentation related to the healthcare service you're seeking. Specific requirements vary by fund.

Is there an application fee?

Some programs require a small administrative fee (usually $10) to process applications. Fee waivers are available for those experiencing extreme hardship.

How long does the application process take?

Most applications are reviewed within 2-4 weeks. Complex applications or those requiring additional documentation may take longer.

Funding & Services

What does THAF funding cover?

Coverage varies by program. Surgery Fund grants go directly to providers. HRT Fund covers consultations, labs, and prescriptions. Electrolysis Fund covers hair removal services. Thrive Fund covers various wellness needs.

Does THAF give money directly to recipients?

Generally, no. Most funds pay healthcare providers directly to ensure funds are used for their intended purpose. This also helps with documentation and tax purposes.

Can I use my own healthcare provider?

It depends on the program. Some require you to use our partner providers, while others allow you to use your own provider with proper documentation. Check specific fund requirements.

What if I have insurance?

Many of our applicants have insurance that doesn't cover gender-affirming care, or have high deductibles they can't afford. We can help fill gaps in coverage.
